In a last ditch effort to get out of this FUBAR before a court hearing tomorrow on his political maneuvers, Mayor William Chesen tries to hold a special council meeting at 2:00 pm on 9.21.2009.

At the meeting ( it was not a council meeting due to lack of quorum) the mayor puts on the agenda the  “rescission suspensions of certain Alderpersons”, in an effort to get a quorum so he can “appoint a Temporary Alderperson” for Districts 2 and 3.

What did come out at the “meeting” was:

  1. The mayor never notified any of the four Alderpersons before the meeting that he “suspended” that they had been “unsuspended.”
  2. The mayor did not know until 2:06 what Alderpersons would be “unsuspended.”
  3. The mayor has no intention in dropping the charges against the four Alderpersons (his political opponents) despite a state stature which reads to the contrary.
  4. This whole issue is about the mayor losing a council vote that appointed Spiro Condos to a vacant Aldermanic seat; Mr. Condos ran against him in the last mayoral election in 2008.

The mayor further stated that he offered to drop the charges against the Alderpersons if Mr. Condos would resign. He further sweetened the offer to resign himself if Mr. Condos would. This is a good example of a Kamikaze politician in a death spiral.

When exactly he made this offer and to who is unclear; what is clear is that this offer is now “off the table.”

Word on the street is that after this meeting Alderman’s Roehrer and Krohn were served with papers by LG Police that they have been “unsuspended.”

Late update:::::: The court hearing on 9.22.2009 has been canceled…..

  1. Let me get this straight! The agenda for Monday’s meeting was written by the Mayor’s lawyer according to Chesen. Why didn’t this lawyer know that a meeting cannot be called without a quorum? Now, guess who gets to pay for this?
